Project:
War Child will use crowdsourced digital mapping to reduce sexual violence and support child protection in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Helplines and SMS technology will enable War Child to advocate for child protection, analyse trends, and maximise support for affected children.
Impact:
An average of two children are raped or abused every hour in Goma, DRC. This statistic is likely underreported due to stigma and fear. War Child plans to use anonymous crowdsourced mapping to show the true impact of rape against children in the DRC. Using information collected through SMS and helplines, War Child will respond quickly to kids who are most in need. Over 18 months, this project will provide counselling for 4,500 young people and, through mapping, prevent the rape of an estimated 9,000 children. War Child's vision is a world where children's lives are no longer torn apart by war.
